The 76th Session of the WHO Regional Committee for Africa

(Addis Ababa, August 27, 2026 | LNC) On Sunday, August 23—the eve of the opening of the 76th session of the WHO Regional Committee for Africa—representatives from the 47 African member states (including the Central African delegation), international institutions, partner organizations, and civil society took part in a walk titled "Walk the Talk: The Health for All Challenge." This symbolic walk was organized in the Ethiopian capital. For those familiar with Addis Ababa, the route led from the Adwa Victory Memorial Park to Meskel Square. This walk symbolically launched the proceedings of the 76th session of the WHO Regional Committee for Africa (RC76), held in Addis Ababa from August 24 to 28, 2026. Participants are set to assess progress made toward regional health goals, debate new strategies and resolutions, and define collective actions aimed at strengthening health systems, advancing universal health coverage, improving health security, and enhancing emergency preparedness. The WHO Regional Committee for Africa serves as the governing body of the regional office. It meets annually to define regional health policy, review the work of the WHO, and set priorities for health outcomes across the continent.
