Renovation of the Bangui-Douala Route
By Andrew FAULKNER | LAMINE MÉDIA
(Bangui, October 17, 2026 | LNC) The Central African Republic—described by Boganda as a "remnant of the partitioning of Central Africa"—is a landlocked nation, making access routes vital. This is especially true for the supply route to Douala, Cameroon. The Central African authorities are now preparing to launch work on this Douala-Bangui corridor, supported by funding from the World Bank, which has already mobilized over 90 million dollars (more than 52 billion CFA francs).
The project includes the reconstruction of an 80-kilometer stretch of road between Baoro and Bossembélé. As noted, the Douala-Bangui corridor serves as an essential supply artery for the Central African Republic; as a landlocked country, a large portion of its imported goods passes through the port of Douala. Consequently, improving this route is a key priority for the transport of goods, the smooth flow of trade, and the reduction of logistics costs. The Central African authorities aim to strengthen road infrastructure and facilitate economic activity along this corridor. Regarding the actual commencement of work on the Bangui-Douala route: the submission of bids by companies, the evaluation process, and the awarding of contracts are expected to take place starting in February 2027.
• Start of construction: The actual launch of work on the sites is scheduled for mid-April 2027.
