The Beasts of Lower Ubangi, eagerly awaited
By Alfred MALONGA the LNC
(Bangui, October 3, 2026 l LNC) The CAN 2027 qualifiers became a real Stations of the Cross for the Beasts of Lower Ubangi. For the Central African Republic, the adventure already seems to be over and has barely begun. Doomed to be an afterthought during the return matches—"caramba, missed again" — the national team will have to drink the chalice to the dregs, starting with facing the anger of its supporters.
On Wednesday, 30 September in Bangui, in front of the Barthélemy Boganda stadium, hundreds of fans and former players protested in pouring rain. Their demand is clear: they demand the immediate resignation of the president of the Central African Football Federation (FCF), Célestin Yanindji, as well as that of the national coach, Éloge Enza Yamissi. To say the leaders and staff are expected to stand firm is an understatement.
As former international player Bruce Kamo pointed out to the press:
"We are calling for the resignation of the Federation. It is not up to everything that is currently happening in Central African football. Federation mismanagement directly affects the performance of the national team.”
It must be said that the picture is bleak. For six years, in the absence of a stadium approved by international standards, the Fauves have been forced to play all their matches "at home" away. A permanent exile that weighs heavily on the results and asphyxiates local football.
Léopold Nagot, general secretary of the former players' union, gives an alarming assessment:
«For two years, no club has come out to represent the country on the international board. And we add to that the poor results of the Beasts in the various competitions. When there are no results, it makes perfect sense for the technical staff to be changed.”
The return of the Central African delegation promises to be explosive. In Bangui, new demonstrations are already scheduled. Atmosphere, atmosphere...
