Is MINUSCA leaving?

(Bangui, 29 September 2026 | LNC) Financial considerations have definitively taken precedence over the doctrine of peacekeeping. With just a few weeks to go before the Security Council’s crucial vote on the renewal of MINUSCA’s mandate in the Central African Republic, LAMINE MÉDIA has obtained a confidential internal United Nations memo. The conclusion is clear: the international organisation is actively planning the drawdown, and indeed the eventual withdrawal, of its mission in Bangui. This sudden halt is a direct response to suffocating financial pressure from the White House. Driven by President Donald Trump and his policy of radical austerity on overseas public spending, Washington is demanding a drastic reduction in its financial contribution to UN operations. The influence of cost-cutting figures and the arrival in the corridors of power of figures such as Jeff Bartos, seen as a true ‘cost-killer’, have accelerated this drive for austerity. From now on, it is no longer risk assessment reports that set the pace, but the budget cuts imposed by the Americans. .Yet the Central African Republic has not suddenly become such a haven of peace that it can do without the UN peacekeepers. This purely financial strategy bodes ill for the provinces in the interior, where the presence of UN forces often remains the sole defence against abuses by armed groups and mercenaries. By sacrificing the security of the Central African people on the altar of Washington’s doctrine of profitability, the UN is set to open a Pandora’s box with dramatic humanitarian consequences.
