(Bangui, July 10, 2026 | LNC) In the Bria region—specifically in Obo, Zémio, and Am-Dafock, as well as the areas surrounding Birao—the security situation has been deteriorating for several days. It certainly cannot be said that the country is at peace. This situation is sparking deep concern among the general public and the political class, while humanitarian actors are sounding the alarm regarding the urgent needs of affected communities. The violence has triggered population displacement and reignited residents' fears. In response, authorities state that measures have been taken and are urging the public to remain calm. Speaking in a stern tone, Touadéra said: “Our armed forces, MINUSCA, and our partners are currently mobilized to address this situation. However, we believe that involving the population—particularly religious leaders and imams—in awareness-raising efforts would be an additional asset in explaining the negative consequences of these events. According to the authorities, certain individuals appearing in videos circulated on social media are allegedly being manipulated and funded by actors hostile to the peace process. We do not want the population to endure further suffering.” OCHA (UN) stated: “To date, ongoing projects are providing assistance to over 80,000 people in the areas of water, hygiene and sanitation, food security, health, and protection. A decision was made to temporarily suspend certain activities in order to reopen dialogue with the parties to the conflict, with the aim of ensuring the protection of civilians and humanitarian workers, and enabling humanitarian operations to continue under safer and more stable conditions.” In a situation that remains fluid, the actors involved emphasize the need to maintain calm while continuing efforts to provide assistance and protect civilians.
