(Bangui, August 3, 2026 | LNC) A tragedy occurred near Damara: a Swiss national and a soldier—a sergeant in the Central African Armed Forces (FACA)—were killed on Saturday near the town of Damara, in the Ombella-M'Poko prefecture. The incident unfolded while the two victims were traveling to the village of Imohoro (at the 55km marker), near Damara, on a mission to scout a mining site. About five kilometers from the village, armed men opened fire on them. A FACA unit from Damara quickly intervened and returned fire, forcing the attackers to flee. The report was also confirmed by Radio Ndeke Luka, which added that calm had returned to the village and the bodies of the two victims were transported to Bangui on Saturday evening. The Damara territorial gendarmerie brigade also confirmed the incident, stating that the situation was now under control and that defense and security forces, supported by their allies, were pursuing the attackers in an effort to locate them.
