A Profile of Jypsie Natacha Yangandia

(Bangui, August 28, 2026 | LNC) In the Central African Republic—where gender barriers and practices such as polygamy still tend to render women invisible—rare individuals break through the glass ceiling. Ursule Jypsie Natacha Yangandia is one such person. Heading the SODECA (Central African Water Distribution Company) plant in Bouar, this Bangui native—standing about 1.70 meters tall—embodies an inspiring exception in a managerial and technical world traditionally reserved for men. A product of the capital's education system, she honed her rigorous work ethic through a path of excellence: after primary school at Fatima Fille and lower secondary studies at Lycée Barthélemy Boganda, she earned a baccalaureate in general mechanics from the Bangui Technical High School. She then chose to specialize in electromechanics at the Institut moderne des métiers spécialisés (Modern Institute of Specialized Trades). Upon graduating, she applied to SODECA as an electromechanic. Hired after a highly successful internship, she quickly caught the eye of her superiors: "When I finished school, I applied to SODECA. I started there as an intern and was subsequently hired. Later, recognizing the quality of my work, my supervisors decided to send me to Bouar as the plant manager," she recalls. On the ground, the task is immense and demands unwavering dedication. Defying stereotypes, Ursule Yangandia masterfully manages the facility's daily operations: "Once at the plant, the first thing I do is check the oil and fuel levels in the generator, then I start it up to power the facility. As soon as the generator is running, I move on to the water treatment section. I start up the machinery—specifically the discharge pump and the transfer pump. Once the pumps are running, I begin the treatment process. We use HTH and aluminum sulfate (AS) for treatment. So, once the treatment is complete, the people of Bouar can finally get water from their taps." By restarting the plant every day, she brilliantly demonstrates that a woman managing major industrial infrastructure is not an impossible feat, but simply a matter of competence.
