

The Law on Assets

(Bangui, 9 June 2026 – LNC) Central African legislation requires senior state officials to declare their assets before taking office, but this obligation is not always met. This is despite repeated calls from civil society.
This legal requirement was established by the Act of 26 November 2021 and enshrined in Article 91 of the Constitution of 30 August 2023. It should be noted that this measure aims to prevent conflicts of interest, combat illicit enrichment and strengthen citizens’ trust in their institutions.
And civil society, dissatisfied, is calling on the Constitutional Council to ensure the law is upheld.
Yet Touadéra is in no hurry to take appropriate action against his subordinates.
Whilst the implementation of this law would have helped to enhance the country’s appeal to international partners and investors.
