(Bangui, July 12, 2026 | LNC) Given that the Linguissa 1 neighborhood in Bangui’s 6th arrondissement is arguably one of the capital's most flood-prone areas during the rainy season, the local committee of the Central African Red Cross carried out a cleanup operation there from Wednesday, July 8, through last Saturday—a much-needed initiative. The effort was part of the "Chronic Crisis" project, funded by the Netherlands Red Cross. It involved clearing out gutters and water drainage channels to prevent flooding. As "Grand Gbomango," President of the Red Cross for the 6th arrondissement, explained—noting the aim to also curb the spread of diseases linked to stagnant water—"We want to prevent malaria, diarrhea, and other illnesses that frequently affect the population during the rainy season." Beyond the 6th arrondissement, the "Chronic Crisis" project is being implemented in the 5th arrondissement, Bimbo, Begoua, and other localities across the country that are frequently affected by flooding.
