(Bangui, 30 May 2026 – LNC) On Friday 22 May, at its headquarters in Nzila, in the Bangui-Fleuve sub-prefecture: the NGO Enfants Espoir de Demain celebrated International Family Day on a delayed basis. It is a centre that provides shelter for orphaned and vulnerable children in partnership with the Ministry for Gender Promotion, Family Protection, Women and Children. The celebration of International Family Day was themed: ‘Family, inequality and child welfare’, and its aim was to instil in these children the concept, and above all the practice, of gender equality. Specifically, this orphanage, which cares for around forty children—including 23 boarders and several day pupils from Nzila—operates with the aim of helping not only orphans but also vulnerable children, by providing them with the bare necessities and, above all, a renewed sense of hope. At this centre, the children are provided with accommodation, clothing, healthcare, food and education thanks to the various forms of support from well-meaning individuals, NGOs and, in particular, church-based organisations, through donations of clothing and materials to help them overcome their difficulties. Dressed in colourful T-shirts, they sang songs of hope to welcome Alphonsine Boganda, the special advisor to the Ministry for Gender Promotion, who explained: “We have come to celebrate with these children to show them that they are not being overlooked. Indeed, the government has never stopped thinking about their plight, providing them with food and offering them a moment of respite that allows them to forget, if only for a little while, the bad memories of what they have endured so far. I would like to take this opportunity to appeal to parents who often treat boys and girls differently. Those who tend to keep girls at home must let them go to school like the others. ” In response, Yvette Agouo, coordinator of the Enfants Espoir de Demain centre, said: “It is a great joy for us today to welcome the Ministry for Gender Promotion to our centre, as they have always stood by our side. In terms of numbers, we currently have 43 children, including 23 boarders and 20 day pupils. We care for them thanks to the support of people of good will.”
