(Carnot, October 13, 2026 | LNC) The road between Baoro and Carnot—frequently traveled by merchants and travelers from various parts of the country—is suffering from severe deterioration, particularly during the current rainy season.
Yet, Carnot is one of the Central African towns that helps supply other cities across the country with various consumer goods.
Although the Baoro-Carnot road sees heavy traffic, numerous potholes filled with stagnant water, erosion gullies, and sandy stretches make travel particularly difficult. Motorists are often forced to bypass certain sections by taking makeshift tracks through the bush.
Clarisse Bounguezé, a merchant and resident of Carnot, shares her experience: "This route is used day and night by many people in vehicles or on motorcycles coming from all corners of the CAR. But lately—especially during the rainy season—conditions on the road have become terrible. Large erosion-caused holes filled with stagnant water take up almost the entire roadway." She also laments the frequent stranding of trucks for days at a time and the difficulties travelers face in finding transport to other nearby towns: "If the authorities could look after this route, it would be a huge relief for thousands of road users."
Aware of this situation, road users are calling on the authorities to take action regarding this strategic route in order to facilitate traffic flow, reduce accident risks, and maintain trade with other localities in the region.
