By Mahamat SENOUSSI | LNC

(Bangui, 23 May 2026 – LNC) On 21 May in Bangui, Touadéra received a delegation from the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees led by its Regional Director for West and Central Africa, Abdouraouf Gnon-Konde, who was on a working visit to the Central African Republic from 17 to 23 May 2026. Discussions focused on the situation of refugees (75,000 of whom have returned home with the assistance of the UNHCR) and internally displaced persons. The mission aims to strengthen dialogue with the Central African authorities as well as with the various stakeholders involved in protecting those affected by forced displacement. It also seeks to consolidate strategies for durable solutions for refugees and internally displaced persons. Despite the gradual improvement in the security situation in certain regions of the country, the Central African Republic continues to face the consequences of years of political and military crisis, which have led to the displacement of hundreds of thousands of people, both within and outside the country.
