One Dead and Two Injured in Vakaga
By Isabella Luisa CAPELLI | LAMINE MEDIA
(Bangui, August 7, 2026 | LNC) Calm has yet to return to the Vakaga region; an attack carried out by armed men in the village of Arédéba—located approximately 40 km from Birao on the road to Am-Dafock—left one person dead and two injured on August 5, 2026. Among the injured is a victim in serious condition who is currently receiving treatment at the Birao hospital. Neither the circumstances of the attack nor the identities of the assailants have yet been officially established. This latest outbreak of violence occurs against an already fragile security backdrop. It follows, by just over a month, the attack on Am-Dafock that took place on June 30. These armed incursions are fostering a climate of fear among the civilian population, disrupting economic activities, freedom of movement, and access to essential services. Faced with a deteriorating security situation that threatens to further worsen living conditions for local communities, the population is calling for an increased presence of defense and security forces, as well as more effective measures to secure roadways and protect civilians.
