Water is Life
By Eve MALONGA (LNC)
(Bangui, June 22, 2026 | LNC) Water is life, they say, yet in the Central African Republic, there is no life, because access to drinking water is problematic. But things are improving for 4,000 people in the sub-prefecture of Zangba, in Basse-Kotto, thanks to the NGO COPADEM with the support of the Humanitarian Fund for the Central African Republic. Eight wells are already operational. As for the other seven structures, they are nearing completion. It should be noted that these are wells or boreholes, and this in the 21st century, just as in the Middle Ages. But the project also incorporates a protection dimension. Solar streetlights have been installed near the water points to secure the areas frequented and reduce the risk of violence, particularly gender-based violence, to which women and girls are particularly vulnerable. particularly vulnerable during water collection. In short, in a region where access to basic services remains limited, this initiative is seen as a significant step forward in addressing the needs of the population.
