Women leaders in Birao and MINUSCA

Bangui, 18 May 2026 – LNC) In Birao, in the Vakaga region, women leaders were very pleased with MINUSCA’s presence during the municipal election process. This support greatly facilitated women’s participation in the election, marking a step forward in their involvement in local governance. Consequently, they would welcome its assistance in strengthening initiatives to promote women’s leadership, women’s economic empowerment and the fight against gender-based violence. These are initiatives they consider essential to increasing women’s contribution to the development of the prefecture. MINUSCA, far from indifferent, has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting women’s active participation in decision-making bodies and local governance. It reiterated that this falls within the framework of United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325, which highlights the role of women in peace and security processes. But what will happen in this country once MINUSCA has left!
